This unique artists’ book has been produced for a forthcoming exhibition of the Caseroom’s MerzBox project at UWE, Bristol (more details to follow later). The Fairy Tale adopts a series of systems to dictate and develop the visual identity of the book. Each page is an individually produced piece of typographic patchwork created with letterpress.

Many thanks to John Richardson who came armed with gifts at the weekend, namely 30 design books from a range of eras and a brilliantly shiny, well-oiled, composing stick!

In an attempt to be more pro-active the Caseroom have decided that they will try to blog at least once a week for the entire year – some challenge! So here goes: As you know it takes Barrie quite a long time to get anything done, his collaborations tend to take years rather than months so we are quite surprised that he has managed to finish two books at once. Both are produced with Edinburgh based writers and poets, the first is Alan Mason’s The Magazine: January – the first of a 12 part series (don’t hold your breath); the second is a book of Angus Reid’s poetry called the Book of Days.

We also discovered this bargain in a local charity shop last week and B could not resist, it is in beautiful condition…I think this now brings the total to 25+

Last week we were visited by Angie Butler, a multi-disciplinary artist from UWE , Bristol. Angie was here discuss some collaborative projects which the caseroom press hope to become involved with in the near future. She was the perfect guest and came bearing gifts – flowers for the office, and a typewriter donation (for student use) – a lovely Lilliput – probably circa 1970s. Thank you!

Along with eleven other artists and designers, we were recently invited by Angie Butler to produce an image for a collaborative book project. The request was simple – to produce an image of a flower. The project is part of “An Inventory Of Al-Mutanabbi Street” – Each person involved in the collaboration has been given an individual name for whom their work is dedicated, 26 people lost their lives on 5 March 2007 in the bombing on Mutanabbi Street. Watch this space for further details of the project.

As posted in late September The Good Man book is now finally finished. The book is a translation by Jack Zipes of a Kurt Schwitters tale. Illustrations by Irvine Peacock combine with letterpress printing to explore the tale of the man who is killed by a swarm of mosquitoes. Stories of Tea and Cake (2) is an edited version of an original book produced by the Caseroom Press in 2007. The book takes a nostalgic look at childhood memories of ‘baking with mother’ or special tea-time treats. This book is available from The Caseroom Press – see website for details.

5 Go on…and on is a pair of books that explore everyday conversations from a group of five women. The books are based on dialogues that took place five years apart and each topic reflects a particular moment in time. This book is available from The Caseroom Press website.
